Our villain awakes to a near-empty home stripped of furniture and decor, a packed knapsack, an eviction notice, and a train ticket.  Dim memories of grudges, vendettas, and blind rage evaporate like a dream as he rises to his feet. He can’t remember his name.  Aimless, empty, he takes the bag and the ticket, and drifts out into the sun.  

The working title for this album, Chip The Black Boy’s third, was Transitory.  Among other things, it is a pro-trans statement. It marks Chip's shift away from the dark side, not into the light, but into the all-encompassing.  Syzygy is the synergy of opposites.

“True Evil,” Syzygy’s opener, is a nod to the dark themes of past Chip works, recognizing their falsehood.  The darkest darkness, the greatest horror, is not planned by a crooked mastermind.  True evil is the product of ignorance and negligence; monstrosity unnoticed until it's too late.

Track two, “Dissolution,” pushes the album into full gear.  It's a celebratory ode to death (rebirth). Here Chip embraces his own inevitable destruction, understanding that death is not necessarily the end.  This theme is revisited in various iterations throughout Syzygy, as Chip purposefully loses himself.

Tripping into the void, Chip faces his subconscious (“Puppy,” “The Moment,” “Bird Vs Fish, “Spring Sprung”), exploring universal mechanisms (“Salvation,” “The Gift”), dismembering and remembering (“The Divide,” “Perennial”).  He bids adieu to outmoded systems of control (“Aged Nation”), and eventually reaches the end/beginning of time itself (“The Moment”).

Ultimately Syzygy is a meditation on renewal; an album for the spring with a forethought of winter; a story in which the villain becomes anti-hero, and death begets life.
